Each practice counts once per treatment. A practice listing eight kinds of crown gets one vote, not eight, so a single large group cannot pull the figure around.
Every price is checked against a plausible band for its treatment before it goes in. Prices outside the band are dropped rather than corrected, which mostly removes fee pages our reader misread by a factor of a hundred.
Published figures are medians and percentiles, never averages, and never a raw cheapest or dearest. An area needs 10 practices and a town needs 5 before it appears at all.
Practice fee pages change. A price recorded in August 2026 may have moved since, which is why the index is rebuilt monthly and always states the date its data runs to.
